African-American/Black Women Equal Pay Day

Tuesday, August 7, 4:30 - 5:30 pm   Across from SPoT Coffee, 200 East Ave.

August 7 is how far into 2018 Black Women work to earn as much as a white male did in 2017. Join Rochester NOW as we protest this low pay - bring your own sign or hold up one of ours - along East Ave - across from SPot Coffee at 200 East Ave.

There also will be a national social media storm at 2:00 pm ET using #blackwomensequalpay, #demandmore, and #equalpay. Learn more at blackwomensequalpayday.org.

"Black women were paid 63 percent of what non-Hispanic white men were paid in 2016. That means it takes the typical black woman 19 months to be paid what the average white man takes home in 12 months. That’s even worse than the national earnings ratio for all women, 80 percent, as reported in AAUW’s The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap. Think about how that adds up in the course of a career, and we’re talking about losing a daunting chunk of change over a lifetime." -- from AAUW at https://www.aauw.org/2015/07/21/black-women-pay-gap/
