What We Do

issues at the core of our advocacy

Pay Equity

What do we want? Equal Pay!
We advocate for a wide range of economic justice issues affecting women, from the glass ceiling to the sticky floor of poverty. These include welfare reform, livable wages, job discrimination, pay equity, housing, social security and pension reform, and more. We pave the way for a more just and inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

LGBTQIA+ Rights

Hey, hey, ho, ho, homophobia’s got to go!
We assert the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals to live their lives with dignity and security. We are committed to fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in all areas, including marriage, employment, public accommodations, health services, child custody, and military policies. By championing fair policies, we strive for a world where LGBTQIA+ individuals are respected.

Reproductive Justice

We won’t go back!
We fully support safe and legal abortions, affordable and effective birth control, medication abortion, telemedicine for reproductive care, and reproductive health education for all. We fiercely oppose attempts to restrict reproductive freedom through legislation and regulations.

Racial Justice

No Justice! No Peace! - Black Lives Matter!
We are committed to combating the barriers to equality and justice imposed by structural racism, particularly those that inflict a double burden of race and sex discrimination on BIPOC women and girls, including trans women and girls. We champion equal opportunities in all areas, including employment, education, and reproductive rights.

Equal Rights

ERA now!
We are working tirelessly to have Congress recognize the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as the 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This November, a state-level Equal Rights Constitutional change will be on the New York State ballot. Both of these ERA’s will have a real impact on women's and girls’ lives. To support the federal ERA, add your name to the petition.

End Violence Against Women

Silence is Violence
One of the most personal and horrific issues we are determined to abolish is violence against women. Women as a class are targets of violence, including rape, sexual abuse, battering, stalking, harassment, and genital mutilation. NOW emphasizes the interrelated factors and complexity of the issue. Our unique approach emphasizes the complexity of the issue and its interrelated factors, including domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, violence against abortion clinics, and hate crimes across the lines of gender, sexuality, and race.

Love Your Body

I am perfect the way I am
Endless diets, eating disorders, and women portrayed as parts or objects in the media all contribute to a culture that does not celebrate women's and girls’ bodies. NOW Foundation’s Love Your Body Day challenges the message that a woman’s value is best measured through her willingness and ability to embody current beauty standards.
